Our Deepest Fear

The following is a poem from author Marianne Williams, I think it is from her book "Return to Love"

Nelson Mandela quoted this in his inaugural speech. I think it is quite amazing. I would love to hear what this poem speaks to you, if anything. Comment below in the comment box. This poem changed my life.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.

It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant,
gorgeous, handsome, talented and fabulous?

Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God.

Your playing small does not serve the world.
There is nothing enlightened about shrinking
so that other people won't feel insecure around you.
We are all meant to shine, as children do.

We were born to make manifest the glory of God within us.
It is not just in some; it is in everyone.

And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
our presence automatically liberates others.

  1. It saddens me b/c some many of us dim our light to so other won't feel so uncomfortable.

How many times have I undermided my accomplishments or beauty so others didn't feel bad. I even had a girlfriend who'd tell me I was doing too much..She'd say, don't come out of the house like Oprah or Condeleeza...and now that I am older, I think God is insulted when we dim our light....

" And, as we let our own light shine, we consciously give
other people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our fear,
    our presence automatically liberates others."

    Rock on sista!
